Gaylord boxes are large corrugated containers used for bulk storage and shipping. Available in 2-wall, 3-wall, 4-wall, and 5-wall thicknesses, they range from light-duty to heavy-duty applications. Standard dimensions fit on a 48x40 pallet footprint. Reclaimed gaylords are inspected for structural integrity, wall strength, and cleanliness before listing. See our gaylord grading guide for condition descriptions, or check standard gaylord dimensions and wall specifications.
Widely used in manufacturing scrap collection, agricultural harvest bins, retail returns processing, and recycling operations. Popular in automotive parts storage, food-grade bulk packaging (with liner), pharmaceutical waste collection, and e-commerce returns consolidation. Multi-wall options handle loads from 500 lbs to over 2,500 lbs.
Reusing gaylord boxes extends the life of corrugated material and reduces the need for new cardboard production. Corrugated manufacturing is energy-intensive, so each reuse cycle saves water, energy, and raw wood fiber. When a gaylord reaches end of life, the corrugated material is fully recyclable, completing the circular loop.

Frequently Asked Questions
What size is a standard gaylord box?
The standard gaylord is 48" x 40" x 36", sized to sit on a GMA pallet. Full-height boxes run 48" x 40" x 48", half-height 48" x 40" x 24", and square boxes 48" x 48" x 36".
How much weight can a gaylord box hold?
It depends on wall count and board grade: 2-wall roughly 500 to 1,800 lbs, 3-wall 1,200 to 3,000 lbs, 4-wall 2,000 lbs and up, and 5-wall 2,500 lbs and up; the manufacturer's certificate for the specific box is the controlling number. The wall count appears in a listing's title or specifications when the seller states it; if it is missing, ask before assuming a rating above 2-wall.
What does box condition mean on a used gaylord?
New boxes have never been used. Like-new boxes were used once and have no tears, crushing, or water marks. Used boxes show wear but are structurally sound; compression and moisture lower capacity, so rate a used box by the manufacturer's certificate for that box, not by the wall-count maximum. Fair boxes have significant wear and are best for light, dry, one-way use under 500 lbs.
How many gaylord boxes fit in a truckload?
Knocked-down flat, a 53-foot dry van carries 200 to 400 or more depending on wall count. Assembled on pallets it carries 20 to 22, one per floor position, because a filled box bulges past its pallet and needs clearance. Buy flat whenever you can assemble on site; the freight per box is roughly ten times lower.
Are used gaylord boxes safe for food contact?
Not on their own. Corrugated is not a food-contact surface, so buyers holding food, feed, or pharmaceutical product line a clean Grade A box with food-grade history with a food-grade poly liner sized to the box, 48" x 40" x 36" for a standard gaylord. A box that held a non-food load, or that sheds fiber or residue, is excluded even with a new liner. Listings state prior contents when known.
