About Used (1x) Bulk Bags

A used bulk bag, often sold as once-used, has carried one load and been emptied. Whether it can carry another depends entirely on its label. A bag rated 6:1 for multiple trips can be refilled after inspection. A bag rated 5:1 single-trip has used its one rated trip and must not be lifted with a new load, however intact it looks, because PP fiber fatigue is not visible.

That label check is the difference from a multi-use bag, which is sold because it is built and rated for repeat trips. A used lot can mix both kinds, so check every bag.

Prior contents come next. A bag that held a food ingredient is cleaner than one that held a mineral or chemical, but a used bag is not food-grade again.

What to Look For When Buying

  • Sewn-in label shows a 6:1 multi-trip rating before any refill
  • Lift loops free of cuts, fraying or stretched stitching
  • No holes, tears or UV-faded, brittle fabric
  • Spouts and ties intact and closing
  • Prior contents compatible with your material

Ideal For

  • Refilling 6:1 bags with compatible dry goods
  • Sand, aggregate and agricultural products
  • Recycling and scrap collection in rated bags
  • Buyers who inspect each bag before each fill

Not Recommended For

  • Refilling any bag labeled 5:1 single-trip
  • Food or pharmaceutical fills

Buying Tips

  • Reject or divert any 5:1 bags in a lot you plan to refill
  • Ask what the bags held and keep that record with the bags
  • Inspect a sample for sun damage, since bags stored outdoors degrade fastest
  • Match loop length and spout sizes across the lot before accepting it
