About Combo (Mixed A/B) Pallets

A combo pallet load is one lot of used pallets of a single footprint, usually the 48x40 GMA, that contains both Grade A (#1) and Grade B (#2) pallets. The yard has pulled out damaged pallets and other sizes but has not separated the As from the Bs.

For the buyer, every pallet in the load is sound, but not every one is Grade A. If your operation can use both grades, a combo load skips a sort you do not need. If some pallets go to an automated line or a customer that specifies Grade A, you will be doing that sort yourself.

A combo differs from a mixed load in what it excludes: no Grade C, no cores and no other sizes. Ask the supplier for the approximate A-to-B split and whether it was counted or estimated.

What to Look For When Buying

  • One footprint throughout, and no pallet below Grade B
  • A stated split of Grade A to Grade B pallets
  • No broken boards or unrepaired stringers anywhere in the load
  • Stringer and block pallets not mixed unless agreed

Ideal For

  • Warehouses that use Grade A and B interchangeably
  • General distribution with forklift or jack handling
  • Floor storage and staging

Not Recommended For

  • Automated lines that accept only Grade A
  • Buyers who need a guaranteed grade on every pallet

Buying Tips

  • Ask whether the A/B split was counted or estimated
  • Inspect pallets from the middle of the stack, not just the top layer
  • Buy straight Grade A if any pallets go to automated equipment
  • Confirm the load is a single footprint before it ships
