A rebottled IBC tote is a new HDPE bottle installed in a cage and base that have already been in service. The product contact surface has no history, while the steel around it does.
That split is the reason to buy one. A reconditioned tote reuses the original bottle, so its fitness depends on what that bottle held and how well it was cleaned. A rebottled tote removes that question, which makes it the usual choice when prior contents are unknown or incompatible with your liquid.
The used parts still need checking. Inspect the cage for broken welds and rust where the galvanizing has worn, and the base for cracks or bent runners. The bottle should carry its own recent molded date, and the valve should be new or serviced.
What to Look For When Buying
- Molded date on the bottle is recent and later than the cage date
- Cage welds intact with no broken or rusted cross-members
- Base free of cracks, bent runners or missing feet
- Valve seats fully and does not drip when filled with water
- Bottle sits square in the cage with no rubbing points
Ideal For
- Food-adjacent and chemical fills needing a clean bottle
- Buyers who cannot verify a used bottle's prior contents
- Liquids incompatible with common industrial residues
- Water storage where the bottle must be clean
Buying Tips
- Ask the seller to confirm the bottle is new, not a cleaned original
- For hazmat, confirm the unit was re-marked by the rebottling facility
- Ask what valve is fitted and whether it was replaced with the bottle
- Photograph the cage and base on delivery, since those parts carry the wear
