Browse ListingsAbout Reconditioned IBC Totes
A reconditioned IBC tote is a used tote whose original bottle has been professionally washed, inspected and leak-tested, with the valve and gaskets serviced or replaced and the cage and base repaired where needed. It is the only used grade that has been through a documented process rather than a rinse.
Because the bottle is the original, prior contents still matter. A food-grade reconditioned tote held a food-safe product and was cleaned to a food standard. An industrial reconditioned tote was cleaned to a non-food spec and may have held chemicals.
For hazmat, a reconditioned tote must be retested and re-marked by the reconditioner under 49 CFR Part 180, since the original test date does not carry over. Rinsed and triple-rinsed totes have had none of this work done.
What to Look For When Buying
- Reconditioner's test date and cleaning record on the unit or paperwork
- Prior contents named on the paperwork, not just "industrial"
- Interior clean with no film, odor or staining under a light
- Valve and gaskets replaced or serviced, with no drip when filled
- Cage and base repaired, with no broken welds or cracked runners
Ideal For
- Industrial chemicals and lubricants
- Agricultural chemicals and liquid fertilizer
- Food-grade reuse when the tote is food-grade reconditioned
- Hazmat liquids when retested and re-marked
- Rainwater collection with a food-grade unit
Not Recommended For
- Pharmaceutical fills that require first-use packaging
- Food contact when the prior contents were industrial
Buying Tips
- Ask for the last contents by name and match them to your liquid
- Ask whether the grade is food-grade or industrial before quoting a use
- For hazmat, confirm a current leakproofness test date and marking
- Fill one unit with water and let it stand before accepting a full load
