Browse ListingsAbout A-C (Premium/Utility) Lumber
A-C plywood has an A-grade face veneer and a C-grade back under PS 1. The face is smooth and paintable; the back allows tight knots, limited knotholes and splits, within the C veneer rule.
Against A-B, the back is rougher and may have open knotholes. Against ACX sold as sheathing, the veneer grades are the same; the difference is the bond classification and whether the panel is sanded. A-C is made in Exterior grade, so check the trademark.
For crates, A-C gives one clean face for stenciling, labels and printed marks on the outside, while the C back faces the inside where appearance does not matter.
What to Look For When Buying
- A-C on the panel trademark with PS 1 and the bond classification
- A smooth A face suitable for stenciling or printing
- C back knotholes that do not line up with fastener points
- Exterior marking if the crate travels outdoors or by sea
Ideal For
- Crate panels with a printed or stenciled face
- Export crates needing a clean marking surface
- Cases with one visible side
Buying Tips
- Face the A side out for marks and labels
- Check whether the panel is Exterior or Exposure 1
- Step down to BCX or CDX if no face needs printing
