Browse ListingsAbout BCX (Better Sheathing) Lumber
BCX is trade shorthand for B-C plywood with waterproof glue, sold as a better-faced sheathing panel. The B face is solid with plugs and tight knots; the C back allows knots and limited knotholes. Depending on the mill, the bond is Exposure 1 or Exterior, so read the panel trademark.
Compared with CDX, the face is closed and cleaner, and the back is C instead of D. Compared with ACX, the face is not smooth enough for fine printing.
For crates, BCX is a step up from CDX where the outside should look tidy or take a stencil, or where a closed face keeps small parts from catching in knotholes.
What to Look For When Buying
- B-C and the bond classification on the panel trademark
- A closed B face with flush plugs
- Thickness and span rating matching the design
- Edge voids on sample panels
Ideal For
- Crate panels with a tidy stenciled face
- Containers for small loose parts
- Reusable crates handled by customers
Buying Tips
- Confirm Exterior or Exposure 1 on the trademark before sea freight
- Use it where CDX knotholes would snag contents
- Choose ACX when labels or fine print go on the face
