Browse ListingsAbout Select Structural Lumber
Select Structural is the top grade for dimension lumber under NLGA, WWPA and SPIB rules. It allows the smallest knots, the least wane and the least slope of grain, and carries the highest design values of any visually graded dimension grade.
The step down to No.1 and No.2 is in strength as well as appearance, so Select Structural is the grade to specify when a crate or skid member has been engineered to a load and the design calls for it. For ordinary pallets, dunnage and blocking, it adds strength the load does not use.
Check the stamp: SEL STR is the common abbreviation. A load described as select but stamped No.1 is No.1.
